The Moon is the Earth's only natural satellite, and is the fifth largest natural satellite in the Solar System. The average distance between the moon and the center of the Earth is 384,403 km, or roughly 30 times the diameter of the Earth. The moon is significantly smaller than the Earth. It appears to shine in the night sky as it reflects sunlight.
Due to its round shape and craterous appearance, popular stories have frequently claimed that the moon is made from cheese. It is due to this property that it attracts the attention of Wallace and Gromit in A Grand Day Out. Upon discovering that they have no cheese in the house, Wallace decides to take a holiday to a place with cheese, and decides the moon is the perfect destination. He and Wallace build a rocket, light the fuse, and travel to the moon.
Upon arrival they confirm that the moon is, indeed, made from cheese; possibly Wensleydale or Stilton according to Wallace's assessment.
The moon is inhabited by a robot who attempts to stow-away in Wallace and Gromit's rocket during their return to Earth. However, he is blown out of the rocket during takeoff, and is last seen happily ski-ing using pieces of metal that broke off the hull for skis.
