Fluffles is Piella Bakewell's former pet dog, and is also Gromit's love interest.

Appearance[]

She is a small poodle with white fluffy fur. She has a black shiny nose, black eyes and a red collar with jewels on it.

Personality[]

At first a shy and timid persona, Fluffles eventually opens up to Gromit, and proves to be a brave, caring and sweet-natured dog. She's a lot more stable than her former mistress and she really did have feelings for Gromit, while Piella was pretending to love Wallace and the first 12 bakers she killed.

History[]

Fluffles is first seen riding in her owner's basket. Due to faulty brakes and a steep slope, the bicycle they are riding is out of control. Thanks to Gromit's quick thinking, she and Piella are saved from falling into the crocodile pit at the zoo. Fluffles is left clearly shaken by the ordeal, unlike her owner. Piella quickly uses her charm and urges Fluffles to get the attention of Wallace. This leads to Piella moving into their home and throwing out Gromit's belongings (much to his anger).

She later appears in Gromit's room, unnerved by his seemingly hostile reaction (he was under the impression that Piella or Wallace was outside). Gromit is both touched and overjoyed to see that she brought back his things while their masters were busy. When he attempts to take back his things, Fluffles points out he's holding her hand. She then giggles seeing one of his records, which causes him to blush (it was 'Puppy Love' by Doggy Osmond).

The pair's moment ends quickly when Piella calls for Fluffles. Though it's never said, when Fluffles goes to her bed she looks very unhappy as Piella happily exclaims how close she was to getting her baker's dozen. Fluffles is also shocked when Piella accuses Gromit of biting her and has him punished; thus rendering him unable to protect Wallace. Unknown to both, Fluffles intervenes when Piella tried pushing Wallace into the machinery. Enraged by this betrayal, Piella takes Fluffles, breaks off her engagement with Wallace, and leaves the house, covered in flour and determined to pay her out.

Piella later returns without Fluffles with a "cake" to celebrate her getting back together with Wallace. As she leaves, she states "Fluffles isn't feeling too well", which causes Gromit to worry. He goes to Piella's home to check on her, only to find he has walked into a trap. When Piella grabs him and throws him in a storage room with Fluffles, the two make their escape using her old Bake-O-Lite hot air balloon.

Fluffles is later held hostage by her owner when Gromit shows Wallace the bomb and convinces him of Piella's true intentions. Having suffered abuse from her owner for so long, Fluffles retaliates and bites her, which infuriates Piella. Though it's not shown (the screen cut to Wallace and Gromit with the bomb), it is clear she hit Fluffles for betraying her. Fortunately Fluffles recovers and helps fight off Piella, before assisting Wallace and Gromit in reducing the impact of the bomb, (which has accidentally ended up in Wallace's trousers), by filling them with dough.

Despite her years of constant abuse, Fluffles is clearly upset realizing that Piella had been eaten by the crocodiles. Though Gromit attempts to comfort her, she apparently leaves out of heartache. As Gromit and Wallace prepare to deliver bread to get over their romantic losses, they stop to see a crying Fluffles in the roadway. Gromit is clearly relieved to see her and offers her to accompany them. She quickly accepts, joining the group on their delivery. She puts on Gromit's "Puppy Love" record. Though it's not shown what happened, Gromit apparently gets caught in the moment and forgets to keep both hands on the wheel, resulting in Wallace yelling at him to watch out.

Residence[]

Prior to the events of her debut, she lived with Piella in a large, dark mansion. After Piella's death, Fluffles currently lives with Wallace and Gromit at their home, the 62 West Wallaby Street.

Relationships[]

Gromit[]

Gromit is the love interest of Fluffles. In his first encounter with her and Piella, he saved her from being eaten by a crocodile. Later after Piella redecorates the house, Gromit’s possessions are put in the bin by Piella, however Fluffles retrieves them and gives them back to Gromit in a box. As Gromit tries to take the box, he touches Fluffles hand, which makes her giggle. While they share a moment, they are interrupted by Piella calling for Fluffles. He is first to notice her fear towards her owner. When Gromit tries to take the box from her, he unknowingly puts his hand on hers. When he pulled the box towards him, he couldn't take it. She clears her throat slowly and shyly gestures him to remove his hands first. After he removes his hands gently and takes the box, she chuckels sweetly as Gromit notices that some of the gifts are from her personally. Gromit notices a Record of 'Puppy Love', a romantic song, and blushes red. But their moment is ruined as Piella calls her from downstairs and she runs away whimpering. After Gromit is framed and chained in the kitchen, she notices Piella attempting to push Wallace into his machinery. Due to Gromit’s helplessness, Fluffles saves Wallace by using Wallace’s technology to throw a bag of flour at Piella. As Piella storms out of the house, snaps at Fluffles saying she “wants a word” with her. Gromit watches her in dread as she follows Piella away, knowing what would fall upon her. Next day, when Piella comes to the house alone saying 'Fluffles wasn't feeling too well' while looking ominously at Gromit. Gromit, concerned about her, secretly enters Piella's bedroom. But he falls into Piella's trap and is thrown next to Fluffles in the Bake-o-lite storeroom. But they break out by managing to inflate one of the 'Bake-O-Lite' hot-air balloons and rush to save Wallace. When the bomb used by Piella is stuck in Wallace's trousers, they work together and overload his trousers in dough. As their attempt to save him is successful, they notice Piella flying away with the hot-air Balloon. But as she was too heavy for it, she drops in the crocodile enclosure and is eaten. Shocked, she hugged Gromit, much to his surprise but he hugged her back. As Wallace goes downstairs, he invites the two to drink tea as the two part. Gromit looks at the sobbing Fluffles looking at her owners balloon fly up. Gromit holds her hand, breaking her tranced state and asks her to come downstairs with him. But due to the guilt, she takes her hand back, making him sad. As Fluffles closes the gates, she looks at him, her face glistening with tears. As she leaves him, Gromit, heartbroken, goes inside the house. As Gromit sits with his best friend, he stares blankly with tear-filled eyes moving his tea. Wallace, in order to cheer both of them up, suggest that they should deliver breads. When exiting the garage, the garage doors opened, revealing Fluffles standing in front of it. Gromit quickly breaks the van. She looks at him and sheds a drop of tear. Gromit opens the van's door and tells her to get in. She obliged and sat in the middle. She quickly got a hold of the LP box and inserted a record of 'Puppy Love' in the van. The three put on their toques and drive away. As they drive away towards the sun, the car moves left-right suddenly before moving ahead normally again as Wallace tells Gromit to keep 'both paws on the wheel'

Piella Bakewell[]

Piella was the original owner of Fluffles. But she was quite abusive towards her and has even beaten her sometimes. She's scared of her very much and was traumatized due to her life with her. She is seen shaking and whimpering every time Piella called her or ordered her to do anything. In the end, Fluffles stands up against her and even fights her to save Wallace.

Wallace[]

Wallace is the new owner of Fluffles after what happened to Piella.
